Master’s Degree Data Science and Digital Society (D2SN, Data Science et Société Numérique)(Master 2), Université Gustave Eiffel

The Masters’ Degree in Data Science and Digital Society (D2SN, Data Science et Société Numérique)(Master 2) teaches “digital methods” for social science and the humanities. It offers education on the sociological analysis of digital data in order to study the innovation dynamics at work in the political, economic, and social spheres.

This programme offers a comprehensive introduction to “big data” concepts, and more specifically, the impact of digital technology on how social science is practised. It offers immersion in digital culture and an understanding of the political debates surrounding it. Throughout this Master’s programme, sociological reasoning is combined with creative IT techniques to collect, process, and visualize digital data. The proliferation of digitalization, online traces left behind by Internet users, and the data produced by connected technologies are making it possible for sociology to exploit information of a new type on a mass scale. This programme teaches the digital methods necessary for this mass data exploitation, combining AI-powered statistical machine learning with the qualitative methods of sociology.

More than half of the courses are taught by LISIS members, including in social science, the humanities, and digital methodologies.
