Titre: Transforming healthcare practice. Integrating praxeological and socio-technical perspectives on social change
Abstract PhD:
This thesis develops and tests a framework that connects micro-level changes in “the things people do” during healthcare service provision with a system-level account of transformative change situated within the system’s organisational and institutional affordances. It builds on an understanding of healthcare practices as co-produced encounters between healthcare professionals and patients, which depend on material and immaterial structures to enable these interactions. Departing from the premise that these interactions are the relevant unit of analysis for understanding healthcare innovation, the thesis traces how actors realign service elements to produce feasible alternative practices and how these practices then acquire legitimacy and become institutionalised on system-level. As such, the thesis contributes to our understanding of transformative change in (public) services.
